SAFEGUARDING & CHILD SAFETY

Survival Guides UK is committed to providing a safe, respectful and positive online environment for everyone who uses the website, including children and young people.

Our website provides educational information about outdoor skills, survival, camping, scouting and related activities. Some of this content is intended for young people and Scout groups.

Keeping young people safe

The safety and wellbeing of children and young people is important to us.

We aim to:

  • Provide age-appropriate and responsible educational content.
  • Encourage children and young people to learn outdoor skills safely.
  • Encourage appropriate adult supervision for practical outdoor activities.
  • Avoid encouraging children to undertake potentially dangerous activities without suitable adult guidance.
  • Treat users with respect and expect appropriate behaviour from everyone using the website.
  • Protect personal information in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

Online safety

Children and young people should never share personal information online, including their home address, school, telephone number, passwords or live location.

Parents, carers and responsible adults are encouraged to supervise younger users when they are using online services and when practical outdoor skills are being attempted.

Survival Guides UK does not provide a private messaging service for children and young people and does not encourage adults to establish private online contact with children through this website.

Outdoor safety

Survival and outdoor activities can involve genuine risks.

Our guides and challenges are provided for educational purposes and should not replace appropriate training, supervision, risk assessment or professional advice.

Children and young people should carry out practical activities only when appropriate adult supervision is available and the activity is suitable for their age, ability and circumstances.

Always follow local laws, landowner requirements, fire restrictions and the safety guidance provided by relevant organisations.

Our responsibility

Safeguarding is taken seriously. Where we become aware of content, behaviour or activity that may place a child or young person at risk, we will take appropriate action within our ability and may refer concerns to the appropriate authorities or safeguarding organisations.

This page provides information about our approach to safeguarding and does not replace the safeguarding policies or procedures of schools, Scout groups, clubs, youth organisations or other organisations using Survival Guides UK.
